Rafael Nadal has achieved so much in tennis but 2022 could see him reach unchartered territory. The Spaniard takes on American Taylor Fritz hoping to reach a semi-final against either Nick Kyrgios or Cristian Garin. Take a few deep breaths while thinking of a possible Nadal v Kyrgios match. Ok, back to the preview, Nadal had never won the first two Grand Slams of the year until 2022. He's never won a calendar Grand Slam but that could well happen this year. He's already won four tournaments this year but did lose in the final at Indian Wells to his opponent in this match. There were good excuses though with a rib injury badly affecting Nadal. He's had few problems reaching the last eight of this tournament and rarely upset apart from a bit of long grunting from Sonego in the third round.
It's been a big year for Taylor Fritz with the 11th seed having already won two titles this year. He had that win at Indian Wells and then won the Eastbourne grass court tournament two days before the start of Wimbledon. Last year saw him get to the third round but this is his first Grand Slam quarter final. It's not been too tough a route to get this far. He's not had to play any seeds and in the fourth round faced qualifier Jason Kubler. Now a far stiffer task awaits him and although he's talented on grass, Nadal has improved on the surface too. Back Nadal to get the win here.
