FC Porto will hope for a calmer outing when they resume Primeira Liga action with a home game against Braga after a tense Champions League game in which they suffered a 3-1 hoke loss to Atletico Madrid. Porto are top of the Portuguese league with 35 points while are fourth with 25 points. Porto will hope to open a gap ahead of Sporting, who are also on 35 points though with an inferior goal difference. In their Champions League game, Porto finished with nine men and they fell off to the Europa League playoffs. The Primeira Liga is their domain and they head to this game unbeaten in 41 league games. They have eight straight wins ahead of this game and are one of the remaining two unbeaten this season. In the league, at home, they have 12 straight wins. They have led in both halves in four of their last five league matches
Braga were in action in the Europa League, and that too didn’t all go to plan as they drew with Red Star Belgrade, to miss top spot and as such will go into the playoffs. That’s the least of their concerns for now though; the focus is on Primeira Liga and they go to this game on two straight wins after their 6-1 loss at Benfica. Their matches have been high-scoring, with each of the last four producing over 2.5 goals. It hasn’t been great for them away from home though, with Braga posting just three wins in the last 10 in the league, though they have two losses only in that run. In their last meeting with Porto, Braga won 3-2 in the Portuguese Cup and set a run of three unbeaten matches against the Portuguese giants. They will hope for a fourth undefeated outing against the league leaders here, but they have lost to two top three sides already.
Porto have dominated the league this season and they get here on a fine run. They haven’t lost a league game in 41 and they’ve done well at home too. Braga have already fallen twice to teams in the top three and the fact that they get here with a shaky away run places them as underdogs. Go for a Porto win.
