In their quest for a third Europa League title, FC Porto will welcome AS Roma for the first leg of the knockout playoffs. This is billed one of the biggest matches in this round and below, we have a prediction.

Porto finished the league phase in 18th spot, three places below Roma. They will be looking to improve on their recent run which has been far from inspiring.

The Portuguese giants are unbeaten in their last four matches but have managed just one win in the last eight games. Four defeats in this run doesn’t place them as a very confident outfit at the moment.

AS Roma have their own struggles as well, but will be more optimistic, based on their recent run. The Italians are coming from a rare away win, beating Venezia 1-0 in Serie A.

That marked their third win in the last five matches, but only their second away from home this season. All their wins in the league phase came on home soil.

Claudio Ranieri will seek to break new ground with a first away win in Europe this season. They lost twice in their four away matches in the first stage of the competition.

The last time these two sides faced off in Portugal was in 2019 in the Champions League; Porto won 3-1.

FC Porto would ordinarily come into this match as the favorites but their recent run has left a lot of questions. They are winless in the last three home matches. In their last eight games, they managed just one win and will be desperate to address that here.
