Fifth seeded Ons Jabeur bids to reach her second successive Grand Slam semi-final. The Tunisian takes on unseeded Ajla Tomljanovic in the last eight with the winner up against either Coco Gauff or Caroline Garcia in the last four. Jabeur is up to third in the live rankings but a win over her Australian opponent will see her rise to second behind Iga Swiatek. Only the Pole has earned more ranking points than Jabeur this year. The Tunisian has only dropped one set on her way to the last eight. That was in her third round match against 31st seeded Shelby Rogers (one of three Americans she's beaten in this US Open). Jabeur has already won a couple of titles this year as well as making it to the final at Wimbledon.
Ajla Tomljanovic is the world number 46 but up to 34th in the live rankings. That beats her previous career high of 38th in the world. A win over Jabeur will see her rise another 10 places. The Australian had previously never made it past the third round in the US Open. Only at Wimbledon has Tomljanovic made it to the quarter final of a Grand Slam, doing so in both 2021 and 2022. Tomljanovic is in her second straight quarter final after reaching the last eight in the Cincinnati Masters after having to qualify for the tournament. This US Open has seen her get wins over Karolina Muchova, Evginya Rodina (in three sets), Serena Williams (again needing a final set) and Luidmila Samsonova. Jabeur has won both of her previous matches against Tomljanovic, the most recent being in Rome. That was their first match against each other in 10 years. Back Jabeur to get another win here.
