Novak Djokovic is just one win away from completing a calendar Grand Slam. Not just that though, a win over Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final will be a record 21st Grand Slam title taking him ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The number one seed has already beaten his opponent in a Grand Slam final. That was in this year's Australian Open final. He's won five of his eight previous matches against his Russian opponent but lost three of the last five. Of their previous matches, two have been won in straight sets and Medvedev has never beaten Djokovic in a Grand Slam tournament. Djokovic has lost six sets on his way to this final and the first set in each of his last four matches. He had to go to five sets to beat Alexander Zverev in the semi-final but has had a day to recover from that.
Daniil Medvedev is in his third Grand Slam final but that first title still eludes him. This is his second US Open final in three years, the other was in 2019 when being beaten by Rafael Nadal. He's had a successful year with three singles titles and victory with Russia in the ATP Cup. Recently, he won the Masters event held in Toronto. Medvedev has beaten Richard Gasquet, Dominik Koepfer, Pablo Andujar, 24th seeded Daniel Evans, Botic van de Zandschlup and 12th seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach his final. Finally he gets to take on a top ten opponent. Djokovic can be backed to win the title and the calendar Grand Slam..
