Neither of these players have previously reached the semi-finals at the US Open. Nick Kyrgios takes on Karen Khachanov with the winner up against either Casper Ruud or Matteo Berettini in the semi-finals. Kyrgios has finally been making the headlines because of his positive results on court. Of course there are still the tantrums but the Australian is bidding to reach his second Grand Slam semi-final in a row. Since losing in the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios has won a title in Washington and had two wins over Daniil Medvedev. The 23rd seed had gone no further than the third round of the US Open until this year. His win over Medvedev in the fourth round showed just how consistent he is finally becoming.
Karen Khachanov is world ranked 31st but seeded 27th in New York. He's up to 23rd in the live rankings and a shock win here will see him rise to 18th. He'd also not made it past round three in New York until this tournament. It's his first Grand Slam quarter final since Wimbledon last year. Getting to the last eight has been difficult for the Russian. He's dropped sets in each of his four matches and had to go to five sets to get past Pablo Carreno Busta in the last round. Khachanov has had two previous meetings with his opponent and is level at 1-1. The most recent meeting was in the Australian Open in February with Kyrgios winning in five sets, with four going to a tie-break. He's been putting in better performances since then and a bet on under 39.5 games looks a winner.
