Mikael Ymer bids to beat a third French player in a row in the Sud de France Open. In a battle of unseeded players, the Swede takes on former three-time winner Richard Gasquet in the quarter finals. Ymer is ranked 83rd and is playing his second quarter final in three tournaments this year. He made the last eight in Adelaide but then lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open first round. This week has seen him beat Corentin Moutet and then third seed Gael Monfils. He only lost four games against Monfils, who has been climbing back up the rankings this year.
Richard Gasquet is a former top ten player but his highest position of seventh came in 2007. He's now the world 87 but has risen 12 places so far in 2022. He's had tremendous success in this tournament winning it three times (last time being six years ago) and losing in three other finals. The Frenchman had only played one tournament this year prior to this event. He beat Ugo Humbert in the first round of the Australian Open but then retired in the third set (1-1 at the time) against Botic van de Zandschlup. This week has seen him again beat Humbert (in three sets) and then Kwon-Soo-woo in straight sets. His only previous match against Ymer was two years ago and he lost in three sets. Back Ymer to get the win here if playing anything like he did against Monfils.
