The match

After winning the Premier League title on the final day, Champions Manchester City have a chance to make it a domestic treble when they take on underdogs Watford in the FA Cup final at Wembley. City are five-time winners of the FA Cup, but haven’t won since 2011. They have defeated Rotherham United, Burnley, Newport, Swansea and Brighton & Hove Albion in the competition to reach the final. With Pep Guardiola targeting the world football’s oldest knockout competition honours, City will look to put their best foot forward. That makes the job even more difficult for Watford, making their first FA Cup Final since 1984, when they lost 2-0 to Everton. The Hornets have had a reasonably successful Premier League campaign under the highly-rated Javi Gracia, finishing just outside the top-half. The successive losses to Chelsea and West Ham United have costed them the top-10 finish and in fact, they finished the season with three straight Premier League losses. To pile on the misery, Watford have not won at Wembley since 1999 before their 3-2 comeback win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the semi-final. They had a fairly easy run-in to the final defeating Woking, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace so far in the competition.

Key Statistics

  • No team has ever won all the three domestic trophies in one season in England.
  • City have won each of the last ten matches against Watford and averaged/ over three goals a game.
  • Watford have conceded 19 goals to City in their last five matches and nine in their last three Premier League games.

The bet of our experts

Manchester City are a very formidable side, as can be seen in their run of 14 consecutive wins. The late season fatigue that usually works against the sides is also absent, considering the huge squad at Pep’s disposal. After becoming the first team since 2009 to retain the Premier League title, City will look to complete the domestic treble against Watford, a side they have defeated 3-1 at home and 2-1 away in the league this season. It is very difficult to see Watford stopping the rampaging City.
