Liverpool appear calm at the top of the standings heading into one of the biggest rivalries in European football. After four league phase matches, Liverpool are the only ones still with maximum points.

Real Madrid are coming into this fixture already underperforming, going by last season’s numbers. Last season, they won the title unbeaten, but this term they’ve already lost twice. 

The latest of their defeats came at home in the third round, Los Blancos falling 3-1 at the hands of Milan. Real Madrid had also lost 1-0 to Lille earlier. Their six points came from wins against Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund. 

In their two matches after the loss to Milan, Real posted comfortable wins against Osasuna (4-0) and more recently away to Leganes (3-0). In that run they’ll feel capable of taking on Liverpool. 

When Liverpool last lost a Champions League game, that defeat was inflicted by Real Madrid. Revenge will be on the agenda for the hosts, but the goals market looks interesting here. These two teams have been scoring a lot of goals and are never shy of going all out.
