British player Jodie Burrage bids to win her first match at Wimbledon. The wild card takes on Lesia Tsurenko with 29th seeed Anhelina Kalinina or Anna Bondar the possible second round opponents. Burrage is playing this event for the second time. Last year saw her also receive a wild card but lost to Lauren Davis, winning just three games. When the draw was made for this tournament, Burrage was ranked 141st in the world. That's a career high ranking and achieved because of her success on grass in recent weeks. The semi-finals were reached in Surbition, the last 16 in Nottingham and she was then the runner-up of an ITF tournament held in Ilkley. Her best results came last week in Eastbourne. Burrage got to the last 16 and that included a win over Paula Badosa who was the top seed. She then lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia, who had just won two grass court titles.
Lesia Tsurenko has a best performance at Wimbledon of reaching the third round in 2017. The 33-year-old comes into this event after a good week in Eastbourne. Tsurenko made her way through the qualifiers and beat Britain's Heather Watson in one of her matches. The main draw saw her get wins over ninth seed Rybakina (after losing the first set 6-1) and Magda Linette but she then withdrew from her quarter final against Beatrix Haddad Maia. She has far more experience than her opponent but Burrage does look to be in good form. Go for over 21.5 games to be played in this match.
