It isn't the toughest job in the world to work out the Wimbledon seedings. Just take the world ranking list and omit those players who have been banned. That's why Jannik Sinner is the tenth seed for this tournament but if it was based on results on grass, he'd have been in the qualifiers. The Italian takes on Stan Wawrinka who has been given a wild card for this event. He was 265th in the world when the draw was made but of course that doesn't reflect his abilities, even at the age of 37. Sinner has never won a match in the main draw of a grass court tournament. He's won a couple of qualifiers against lowly ranked players but not one main draw success. His latest attempt failed when losing to Tommy Paul in Eastboiurne last week.
Stan Wawrinka has had more than his fair share of injury problems hence his low ranking. He's a former quarter finalist in this event on two occasions but the last time he got that far was seven years ago. Wawrinka hasn't played a great deal this year but has put in some good performances. He made it to the last 16 in the Rome Masters and then repeated that feat at Queen's Club on grass. He's had two previous matches against Sinner and won them both. This is their first meeting in three years and the first time they've met on this surface. Sinner has youth on his side but it's hard to back a player who has never won a main draw match on grass. Wawrinka can win this but it's not easy to back him either, especially if the match were to go all the way. A bet on him to win a set looks a good one to make.
