Sixth seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on up and coming Jack Draper in the second round of the US Open. The winner of this match faces with Thiego Montero or the 27th seeded Karen Khachanov in the third round. Auger-Aliassime reached the semi-finals of this tournament last year. That puts pressure on his ranking with plenty of points to defend and he's down to 12th in the live rankings. That's four places lower than his current career high eighth place. This year has seen him get to the last eight at the Australian Open and the fourth round in Paris. He ran into an in-form Maxime Cressy at Wimbledon and was beaten in the first round. Since then he has good runs in Los Cabos (semi-finals) and the last eight in both the Montreal and Cincinnati Masters. The Canadian beat the qualifier Alexander Ritschard in the first round of this tournament, winning by three sets to one.
This time last year Jack Draper would not have dreamed of a direct entry into the US Open. The end of August 2021 saw him ranked 272nd but he began this tournament in 55th place. His first round win over Emil Russuvouri has him in the top 50 in the live rankings. The Brit is only 20 years old and recently made it to the quarter finals of the Montreal Masters with a win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. He's won four titles on the Challenger Tour this year but this is going to be a tough task for him. Back Auger-Aliassime to win the match, it might take four sets though.
