Third seeded Iga Swiatek takes on the sixth seed Maria Sakkari in the Indian Wells final. Both of these players have been showing top form for a while and Swiatek is bidding to win her second successive title. The Pole won the last tournamet in Doha and beat Sakkari in the semi-final of that event. It was an important win for her as she'd lost her previous three matches against the Greek player. Swiatek has now earned more ranking points this year than any other player on the WTA Tour. A good start to the year that is likely to continue as the clay court season begins. Swiatek hasn't had it all her own way in this tournament though. Her first three matches saw her drop the first set but then commandingly win the other two, dropping just nine games after those three first set losses. It's been easier for her in the quarter and semi-finals with two straight sets wins over Madison Keys (only losing one game) and Simona Halep.
Maria Sakkari is in her second final of the year. The Greek made it to the final of the St Petersburg Ladies' Trophy and followed that up with the semi-final in Doha that was lost to Swiatek. This is her fifth WTA Tour final, but the only success was in Morocco in 2019. Only in her semi-final has Sakkari lost a set in this tournament. Sakkari lost the middle set when beating defending champion Paula Badosa to reach her first Masters 1000 final. Go for Swiatek to continue her top form and get the win here to lift this title for the first time in her career.
