Top seed Iga Swiatek faces Jessica Pegula (seeded eighth) in the US Open quarter finals. The winner of this match takes on either Aryna Sabalenka or Karolina Pliskova in the last four. Swiatek has had a dominant year with that incredible run of six successive titles. That's left her clear at the top of the world rankings and WTA Race but her form has dipped in recent weeks. After her win at Roland Garros, only one quarter final was reached in the next four tournaments. Swiatek is in her first US Open quarter final and beat Julie Niemier in the last 16. The German won the first set but then her serve fell apart. Swiatek continually broke Niemier and won the final set without dropping a game. The Pole would have struggled to beat many top ranked players in that match. Swiatek has faced Pegula on three previous occasions and leads 2-1. The most recent win for Swiatek was in this year's French Open quarter finals.
Pegula's one win over Swiatek took place in their first meeting three years ago. While the American is yet to win a tournament this year, only Swiatek and Ons Jabeur have earned more ranking points than her. The eighth seed is up to fifth in the live rankings and reaching the final will take her into fourth. This is the first time that she's made it past the third round in her home Grand Slam with four first round exits in the past five years. This is her third Grand Slam quarter final of the year and only one set has been dropped on her way to the last eight . Monday saw her get an impressive win over Petra Kvitova who has been in good form of late. Swiatek is the favourite but if the Pole plays as she did in the last round, it'll be a struggle to do so. A bet on over 20.5 games looks a good one to make.
