Seventh seeded Coco Gauff faces Britain's Emma Raducanu in the Australian Open second round. Gauff is the world number seven but her first round win over Katerina Siniakova has seen her rise a place. That's still below the career-high ranking of fourth achieved last October. Although the American is ranked 70 places higher than her opponent, she may look at Raducanu with envious eyes. That's because Raducanu has won a Grand Slam event and Coco has only reached one final and lost that at Roland Garros to Iga Swiatek. Still not 19 until March, Gauff has her eyes set on a maiden singles Grand Slam title in 2023. This year has got off to a good start with her winning the Auckland Classic, though she didn't need to beat anyone ranked in the top 60. Her form in the Australian Open isn't great with only one match won in the last two visits.
Emma Raducanu is a rather frustrating player to place bets on. There have been several retirements from matches by the British player and that started before her US Open win. This year has already seen have to retire from one match due to rolling an ankle. Perhaps she's destined to be one of those players who has the talent for sure but is going to see injuries hinder her career. Since winning in New York, Raducanu hasn't made it past the second round of a Grand Slam. Her ranking has gone down to 77th so there will always be the chance of her meeting a top seed early on in tournaments. Back Gauff to get the win here and to do so in straight sets.
