Last year saw Emma Raducanu win the US Open despite having to qualify for the event. 12 months later, she arrives at Flushing Meadow 11th in the world but with a tough first round match against Alize Cornet. The 19-year-old will plummet down the rankings if having a poor US Open. At present, she's down at 79th in the live rankings and that's below her opponent. Life after the US Open win hasn't been that easy for Raducanu. There have been fitness problems and she's not managed to get past the quarter final of a tournamen with 15 out of her 28 WTA Tour matches being lost. Again there are fitness worries with fears concerning a wrist injury. Recent weeks have seen her beat Serena Williams and Viktoria Azarenka and she'll need to recapture that form in this first round match.
When Alize Cornet played her first Grand Slam tournament, Emma Raducanu was just two years old. Now she's playing in a record 63rd Grand Slam in a row. It took her until this year though to make a quarter final and that's what happened in Australia. Form at Wimbledon was good too as the French player ended the long unbeaten run of Iga Swiatek on her way to the last 16. Current form has been good too with a semi-final appearance in Cleveland on this surface. Back her to get the win and end the US Open title reign of Raducanu.
