We have an unseeded player in the women's semi-finals and there will also be one in the men's tournament. Nick Kyrgios takes on Cristian Garin and the winner will take on either Taylor Fritz or Rafael Nadal. Kyrgios is the world number 40 but if he played on the circuit more often, the chances are he'd be a lot higher in the listings. This is his third quarter final on grass this year and the other two tournaments saw him also reach the last four. He's the favourite to do that after some impressive wins over fourth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas and Brandon Nakashima. His temper is of course suspect and he has to attempt to keep that under control. His talent cannot be underestimated though, especially on this surface and with his serving. He last reached this stage at Wimbledon eight years ago and now seems the time to make his first semi-final.
Cristian Garin began this year ranked 17th. However, he's dropped down the rankings and was in 43rd place when this tournament started. No ranking points here though, so more hard work to do to climb up the list. His first three visits to Wimbledon saw him fail to win a match. Last year though he got to the fourth round and has gone a step further in 2022. This is his first time in a Grand Slam quarter final and beating Kyrgios would see him in only his second semi-final of the year. The other was on clay in Houston, a surface he gets most of his ranking points on. Garin lost both of his grass court warm-up matches but he's hit good form at Wimbledon. He's beaten two seeds so far, namely Jenson Brooksby (29th) and then the 19th seed Alex de Minaur, after losing the first two sets. Kyrgios is by far the better player on this surface and he can get the win. A side bet on a tie-break looks a potential winner.
