The winner of this match will be in the US Open semi-finals for the first time. Caroline Garcia is the 17th seed but in with a great chance of beating 12th seeded Coco Gauff. The winner of this match faces either Ons Jabeur or Ajla Tomljanovic in the last four. Garcia was ranked fourth in the world in 2018 but injuries have affected her career. The French player was down in 79th place in May but has zoomed up the rankings to 17th before this tournament began. Her run to the last eight of the US Open has seen her rise to 12th in the live rankings and she'll be a top ten player again if beating Gauff. 17 of her last 18 matches have been won with title successes in Poland and the Cincinnati Masters. That includes beating four top ten players. This tournament has seen that fine form continue with four straight sets wins and only 20 games lost.
Coco Gauff will be looking to get a third win out of three against Garcia. The most recent win was in Doha but that was before Garcia began her charge up the rankings. Gauff has already reached the French Open final this year but this is her first time in the last eight of her home Grand Slam. Previously, Gauff had never made it past the third round of the US Open. The 18-year-old is up to a career high seventh in the ranking. Gauff has also had four straight sets wins in this tournament but it was tight in the last round against Zhang with both sets going to 7-5. Garcia has to be backed while she's in such great form.
