Fifth seeded Ons Jabeur bids to reach her second Grand Slam final in a row. The Tunisian takes on the 17th seed Caroline Garcia in this US Open semi-final. Jabeur is up to second in the live rankings but still a mile behind world number one Iga Swiatek. Her 28th birthday was celebrated just before the start of this US Open, winning it would be a great late present. Before Wimbledon this year, Jabeur had never reached a Grand Slam semi-final. In the US Open, this is her first time past the third round. Only one set has been lost on her way to this semi-final (to Rogers in the third round) and the quarter finals saw her beat Ajla Tomljanovic.
Caroline Garcia was ranked fourth in the world but that was back in 2018. Injuries have affected her since but is in sparkling form at present. Her fourth round win over Coco Gauff made it 18 wins from her last 19 matches. During this run, Garcia has won the Polish Open (getting a win over Swiatek on the way) and the Cincinnati Masters. This is her fifth semi-final since June when winning the Bad Homburg grass court title. In June her ranking was 75th but the win over Gauff in the quarter finals has taken her up to 10th and a win over Jabeur could see her rise to as high as seventh. Garcia is yet to drop a set in this tournament and this is her first Grand Slam semi-final. To reach the final, the French player will need to beat Jabeur for the first time. They've had two previous meetings and both were in Grand Slams, the first being in the 2019 US Open. The other was in the 2020 Australian Open but Garcia is in far better form now. Go for her to win this.
