Seventh seeded Cameron Norrie take on the 28th seed Holger Rune in the US Open third round. The players are battling to reach a last 16 match against either Denis Shapovalov or Andrey Rublev. Norrie reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon this year and also made it to the final in Los Cabos and the last four of the recent Cincinnati Masters. He's up to a career high eigth in the live rankings but still only 11th in the ATP Race. He'll need some more wins if wanting to make it into the lucrative ATP Tour finals. This week got off to a great start with a straight sets win over Benoit Paire who only won games in one of the three sets. It was a little more difficult in the second round but he beat Jaoa Sousa without dropping a set. He's played Rune twice before and won both of the matches. The most recent of those was this month when he won in the Cincinnati Masters.
Holger Rune is the world number 33 but he managed to get a seeding due to withdrawals. He made it to the French Open quarter finals earlier this year. That is his best surface and this is the first time he's made it past the first round of any other Grand Slam. He beat Peter Gojowczyk to lose that unwanted record and then was due to face John Isner. The American pulled out though sending Rune into the third round without having to play a shot. His current form isn't good with eight successive tournaments in which he didn't reach a quarter final. Back Norrie to get the win here.
