Burnley will host Watford in their next game with both sides keen on bouncing back after winless runs in their recent matches. Watford have been sinking and are on 13 points in 17th place, just two points above Burnley who are 18th but with a game in hand. Burnley are coming from a 0-0 draw with West Ham United, which should be considered commendable given the two sides’ recent forms. It was Burnley’s fifth straight winless match, and they’ve managed just one win in the last 10 games. Going to this game Burnley are the second poorest scorers in the league with 14 goals but have conceded 10 less than Watford. They’ve failed to score in their last three matches.
Watford on the other hand, have four straight losses going to this game. Most of their problems start in defence, though they have a long list on injuries to cope with, some of them key players. They have no win since beating Manchester United 4-1 and have conceded two or more in the last four matches. Each of their last five matches has produced over 2.5 goals and they have just two wins in the last 10 games. It hasn’t been much better away from home; in eight matches they have two wins and all the rest are losses with the team failing to score in four.
Both these sides are on poor runs and with just two points separating them in what seems to be headed to a relegation scrap, there will be a lot of caution employed here. Defensively, Burnley have done better than Watford, and they will need more of that with Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis in great form. Burnley aren’t the strongest in attack and Watford should have an easier time after conceding at least two in each of the last four. A draw seems like a good pick for this game.
