The Aston Villa revival under Steven Gerrard can continue with a home win over Burnley. At the time of writing this preview amid a busy schedule, Villa are up to ninth, with Burnley 18th. Midweek saw Villa get a comfortable away win at bottom-of-the-table Norwich City. Since the arrival of Gerrard, Villa have won four Premier League games and lost to Manchester City and Liverpool. Three home league games have been lost by Villa this season, two of them inflicted by sides in the top four. There have been home victories over Brighton and Leicester, since Gerrard took over as boss. Both the home games played against Burnley since Villa returned to the Premier League have ended level, Villa will hope for more than that this weekend.
Burnley had another postponement on Wednesday when their home game agains Watford was called off. They remain in the relegation zone and are two points behind Watford with a game in hand. Burnley have gone five league games without a victory and failed to score in the last three. Just Norwich and Wolves have scored less Premier League goals than Burnley this season. They have to get a new striker or two in the January transfer window or this could be the season they go down. Burnley have drawn three of their last four away games. However, getting wins is difficult though and they have gone nine Premier League away games without a victory, failing to score in five of them. Back Villa to get a home win.
