The NFL is the most popular sport in the United States and has seen consistent growth worldwide. It attracts some of the highest betting action of the year, especially in its playoff and championship games. The league consists of 32 teams divided into two conferences: the American Football Conference (referred to as the AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). Within these two conferences teams are again divided into four divisions of four teams, each of which consists of: AFC/NFC North, South, West and East. The regular season is 18 weeks and sees each team play 17 games with one week off (referred to as a bye-week). Divisions play a role in a team's scheduling as they will face off against their division rivals twice a season, once home and once away. The typical NFL season starts in September and sees the majority of its games being played on Sunday, with one Thursday game and one Monday game also included.

After the regular season, the top 14 teams (seven from each conference) enter into a single-elimination playoff beginning in January. Teams compete in the regular season to win a higher seeding for the playoffs which can hold advantages such as a first-round bye-week or home-field advantage in the playoffs. In total, each conference plays three rounds of playoff games to decide the winners and the two remaining teams take part in the Super Bowl, the league's championship game which takes place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning NFL champions after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime to claim a brilliant Super Bowl LVIII. In winning, they became the first team since the 2004/05 New England Patriots to go back-to-back. Four trips to the Super Bowl in a five-year span for the Chiefs have seen them win three. This team has become a dynasty, led by two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes, they are marginal favourites again. The second favourites are the 49ers who lost to the Chiefs in two of those years, they will be out for revenge.

The Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Chargers were tied for the lowest "over" percentage (29.4%) with just five of their 17 games going over.

The San Francisco 49ers were a bitter disappointment this season for our pre-season pick. They failed to make the playoffs but we now know the teams that will compete for the Lombardi Trophy and are set to go again in the playoffs.

A 15-2 record in the regular season has the Kansas City Chiefs as the team to beat out of the AFC. The only team who went through the season in a similar fashion were the Detroit Lions who look the top team in the NFC. The big positive for the Chiefs is that they have been there, done that and got the t-shirt. They know how to get the job done in the biggest game of the year. Although they have not been quite as hot scoring points this season, an improvement defensively makes them a very hard team to beat.
