Ajla Tomljanovic is in her second successive Wimbledon quarter final. The unseeded Australian takes on the 17th seed Elena Rybakina. Whoever wins this match will take on either Simona Halep or Amanda Anisimova in the last four. Tomljanovic is ranked 44th in the world and is in her second grass court quarter final of the year, following a similar run at the Nottingham event. Two other quarter finals have been reached in 2022 but no semi-finals yet. The third round saw her defeat 13th seed Barbora Krejcikova, but she had to come from a set down to get that victory. The same happened in the last round as she defeated Alize Cornet. There's only been one previous match against her opponent in this quarter final. Rybakina won that for the loss of just four games (including a 6-0 second set) but that was on clay.
Elena Rybakina is the third highest seed in another chaotic Wimbledon women's singles. This is only her second time in the main draw at Wimbledon but she's proved this is a surface that can be successful for her. Last year, Rybakina made it to the fourth round and this time around, she's gone a step further. Rybakina has only played in one previous Grand Slam quarter final. The other was on clay at the 2021 French Open. Her grass court warm-ups didn't go too well with the best being a last 16. It's gone well for her at Wimbledon though and she is yet to drop a set. Back Rybakina to get the win here, though it might take her three sets to do so.
